On the Road Again
Canned Heat · 1967Canned Heat recorded On the Road Again in Los Angeles for the album Boogie with Canned Heat, with Alan Wilson taking the lead vocal and harmonica part. The recording used the bands electric blues lineup with Henry Vestine on guitar, Larry Taylor on bass, and Adolfo de la Parra on drums, with Dallas Smith producing for Liberty. Released by Liberty in 1968, On the Road Again became Canned Heats breakthrough single and reached number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. Its modal drone, high vocal, and updated blues source material made it one of the key psychedelic-era blues-rock singles. On the Road Again became Canned Heats signature record and a lasting example of late-1960s blues revival music crossing into the pop charts. The song kept Floyd Jones earlier On the Road Again in wider circulation and remained a staple of blues-rock compilations and radio programming.
