I Desire

It was recorded for Salt-N-Pepa’s debut album Hot, Cool & Vicious during the album sessions at Greene St. Recording in New York City, which ran from October 1985 to August 1986. Stephen Keitt is credited as the track’s producer. The track appeared on Salt-N-Pepa’s 1986 debut and showed the group moving into the harder, sample-driven sound that defined their early work. It was part of the album that established them as one of the era’s key female rap acts. The song became a notable source for later hip-hop and dance records and has been sampled in 21 songs, including Special Ed’s “The Mission.” Its continued use in sampling culture has kept it visible beyond the original album cycle.
