Everything but the Girl · 1995
Recording

It began as an album track on Amplified Heart, recorded in London in 1993–94 by Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt with John Coxon involved in the production. Todd Terry later remixed it for club release, turning the song into a dance-floor single. The Todd Terry remix became Everything But the Girl’s international breakthrough and their first major U.S. hit. It pushed the duo from indie-pop obscurity into mainstream club and pop airplay. The song became the defining record of the duo’s career and the turning point that led them toward the electronic direction of later work. It remains a signature 1990s dance-pop crossover and one of the era’s most recognizable remix success stories.
