Afro Medusa was the trio of Isabel Fructuoso, Nick Bennett, and Patrick Cole. The song was written by the trio, with Bennett and Cole credited as producers, and it emerged from the London-based project that first issued the track in 1999. The track broke through on club dancefloors in the UK and the US and became the group’s signature release. It reached No. 31 on the UK Official Singles Chart and later hit No. 1 on the Billboard dance club chart in 2000. Pasilda remains Afro Medusa’s best-known recording and a durable fixture of early-2000s club compilations and dance catalogs. Its continuing circulation in later releases, remixes, and samples reflects its long afterlife in house music.
