Inner City Life

“Inner City Life” was written by Goldie with Rob Playford and features vocals by Diane Charlemagne. It was created during the sessions that produced Goldie’s debut album “Timeless,” with Playford handling much of the programming and production work alongside Goldie’s musical ideas and arrangements. The single was released by FFRR in November 1994 as Goldie Presents Metalheadz and became one of the first major crossover records from the scene. It reached number 49 on its original UK singles-chart run and number 6 on the UK dance chart. “Inner City Life” became the signature track from “Timeless” and one of Goldie’s defining records. Its later recognition in best-of dance-music lists, remixes, reissues and soundtrack use kept it central to the history of UK electronic music.
