Jah Light
Love Joys · 2002Love Joys recorded Jah Light at Wackie's Studio in New York for Lloyd Barnes' Wackie's circle, with Sonia Abel and Claudette Brown singing over the label's in-house rhythm section. The track appeared on the duo's first album Reggae Vibes, originally issued in 1981 on Top Ranking International and also titled Jah Light on the inner labels. The track helped define Love Joys' first Wackie's album, balancing devotional roots themes with the close-harmony style of the Bronx-based label. It stood out in Bullwackie's catalogue as a female-led roots recording within a scene dominated by male singers and deejays. Jah Light remains one of the central tracks on Reggae Vibes and returned to circulation through Wackie's, Basic Channel, and later Roots Injection reissues. Its continued reissue history has kept Love Joys' small catalogue visible to roots, dub, and lovers-rock collectors.
