Tryouts for the Human Race (Alternate Extended Version)

Tryouts for the Human Race (Alternate Extended Version)

Sparks · 1979
Recording

The recording originated in the 1978 sessions for No. 1 in Heaven at Musicland Studios in Munich, with additional work at Sound Arts and Westlake in Los Angeles. Giorgio Moroder produced and mixed, Jürgen Koppers engineered, Ron Mael played synthesizers, Russell Mael sang, Keith Forsey played drums and Dan Wyman handled synthesizer programming. This 7:56 alternate extended version was first officially issued on the 2019 40th Anniversary Edition of No. 1 in Heaven. It preserves a longer archival configuration of a song originally released as a Sparks single in 1979. The alternate extended version broadened the available documentation of Sparks' collaboration with Giorgio Moroder and was retained on the album's subsequent 45th Anniversary Edition. The original single reached number 45 on the UK Singles Chart and remained one of the key recordings from the No. 1 in Heaven period.
