Back Together Again
Roberta Flack · 1979Recording
Recorded on 13 January 1979 during sessions intended for a second Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway duets album. Flack and Hathaway shared lead vocals, with James Mtume arranging and musicians including Reggie Lucas, Nathan Watts, Stevie Wonder, Ray Chew and Luther Vandross contributing. Released after Hathaway's death, the song became a major posthumous duet and reached number three on the UK Singles Chart. Its buoyant arrangement provided a striking contrast to the circumstances surrounding the final Flack-Hathaway sessions. The track remains one of the duo's best-known collaborations and an enduring dancefloor favourite. It preserved the vocal partnership that had produced several of the most celebrated soul duets of the 1970s.
