Splifhead
Ragga Twins · 1990Joey Beltram wrote, produced, and mixed “Energy Flash” in his basement-era New York setup; the track was originally recorded and mixed at On-One Studios in New York. The original release was issued by R&S Records in 1990. On release, “Energy Flash” stood out as a defining early techno record, with its dry drum-machine programming and stark, relentless structure marking it as one of the era’s key club tracks. It quickly became a touchstone of the darker strain of techno and rave music. The track still matters as one of Beltram’s signature records and a durable benchmark for techno production; Roland described it as still fitting easily in modern DJ sets decades later. It has been widely sampled and reworked, which has helped keep its influence visible across later electronic music.
