From the Grass Dub

Sly & Robbie · 1998
Recording

The track is a dub mix from the King Tubby’s Dancehall Dub sessions, built around Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare’s rhythm work and associated with the King Tubby mixing style in Kingston. It was issued as part of the 1998 Clocktower Records release and reflects the dancehall-era reggae production method of reworking pre-existing backing tracks. It stood as part of a late-1990s reissue that reintroduced classic Jamaican dub craftsmanship to a new audience. The track helped frame Sly & Robbie’s rhythm-section sound within the long arc of King Tubby’s dancehall dub catalog. The cut remains a catalog touchstone for Sly & Robbie’s role in dub history and for King Tubby’s influence on later remix culture. It continues to circulate on dub compilations and streaming-era reissues, keeping the track in front of new listeners.
