Love Is the Message

Love Is the Message

MFSB · 1974
Recording

MFSB recorded the track at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia with vocals by The Three Degrees. Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff produced the original release, which appeared on the 1973 album Love Is the Message and was issued as a single in 1974. The single followed MFSB’s No. 1 breakout "TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)" and extended Philadelphia International’s run as a dominant force in soul and early disco. It reached the Billboard Hot 100 and became a staple of dance floors and radio programming. The track became one of MFSB’s most durable records, especially in disco, house, and ballroom circles. It remains widely sampled, remixed, and cited as a defining Philadelphia soul anthem.
