Got Your Money (Dirty)

Ol' Dirty Bastard feat. Kelis · 1999
Recording

The track was recorded in 1999 at Quad Studios in New York, with the Neptunes producing and Kelis handling the hook. It served as the lead single from Ol' Dirty Bastard’s second album, Nigga Please. Released as a surprising pop-leaning crossover from one of Wu-Tang Clan’s most unruly voices, it became the breakout single from Nigga Please and a major commercial turn for ODB. Its blend of rap and R&B made it one of the era’s most immediately accessible singles. The song has remained a durable turn-of-the-millennium staple, with later samples, covers, and commercial uses extending its reach well beyond its original run. It also introduced Kelis on record and helped establish the Neptunes’ signature early pop-R&B sound.
