Everybody

Roy Ayers · 1983
Recording

Recorded at Sigma Sound Studios and Electric Lady Studios in New York during the sessions for Lots of Love, 'Everybody' features Roy Ayers on vibraphone alongside a studio ensemble that included Brian Jackson, Jorge Dalto, Lesette Wilson, William Allen and Omar Hakim. Ayers produced and arranged the album, with co-production and arrangements by William Allen and Travis Milner. Released in 1983 on Ayers' independent Uno Melodic label, 'Everybody' reflected his move towards dance-oriented arrangements built around synthesised bass, crisp percussion and his distinctive musical style. The track appeared on Lots of Love and the UK album Drivin' on Up, demonstrating Ayers' continued connection with the club scene. 'Everybody' has remained a sought-after recording among jazz-funk collectors and DJs, particularly within the British rare-groove scene. Its continued appeal led to a seven-inch reissue by Expansion Records, pairing it with 'And Then We Were One' and introducing both recordings to new audiences.
