Boogie Down (feat. Carla Vaughn)

Recorded in 1977 during Roy Ayers' prolific period with his Ubiquity ensemble, 'Boogie Down' features Carla Vaughn on lead vocals, Dennis Davis on drums and William Allen on bass. Written by Vaughn, the recording was retained in Ayers' personal archive until its eventual release on Virgin Ubiquity. Originally recorded in 1977 but first released commercially in 2003, 'Boogie Down' opened Virgin Ubiquity: Unreleased Recordings 1976–1981 on Rapster Records and BBE. Its energetic vocal performance, driving rhythm section and keyboard-led arrangement attracted favourable attention, including a positive review of the collection in Billboard in January 2004. The recording helped introduce previously unheard Roy Ayers material to a new generation of listeners, DJs and collectors. Its inclusion on Virgin Ubiquity contributed to renewed interest in Ayers' extensive recording archive and the subsequent release of further archival material and remixes.
