Recording

Green Velvet produced this track in Chicago, recorded and mixed at the Playroom Recording Studio by Jerome Mikulich. The original was released on Relief Records in 1995 and subsequently received multiple reinterpretations from prominent house and techno producers. Flash reached number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart upon its 1995 release and became a seminal techno-house track of the 1990s. The track's novelty narrative and infectious hook caught widespread DJ and club attention, leading to high-profile remixes from Chicago house pioneers including DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, Boo Williams, and others. The track remains a timeless dancefloor staple and was included on Billboard's 2019 list of the 10 Essential '90s Rave Jams. Its enduring influence is evident in continued reinterpretations, with a new remix package released in 2016 featuring contemporary producers like Eats Everything, Latmun, and Loco & Jam. The original has been sampled and referenced across electronic music and remains a reference point for Chicago house and acid techno production.
