La La Land

Green Velvet · 2001
Recording

Curtis Jones issued the track in 2001 as Green Velvet on Relief Records during the Whatever era, writing it as an anti-ecstasy club record after a life-changing night in a friend's apartment. The original 12-inch paired the vocal version with a Geo Vogt remix. The track became Green Velvet’s signature vocal record and a club anthem, with its anti-drug message set against a stomping house beat. It also gave him crossover chart presence, reaching No. 29 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 12 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart. It remains one of Green Velvet’s best-known releases and a landmark Chicago house vocal record. Resident Advisor described his vocal-led records as influential on later generations, and the song’s enduring life is reinforced by later remixes and continued DJ use.
