Recording

Recorded during the thirteen-month sessions for Ultra at studios in London, New York and Los Angeles. Tim Simenon produced the track, with Dave Gahan on lead vocals, Doug Wimbish on bass, Keith LeBlanc on drums and Danny Cummings on percussion. Released as the fourth and final single from Ultra, the song emphasised the band's use of live rhythm instruments alongside electronic programming. It reached number 28 on the UK Singles Chart. The track remains a prominent example of Depeche Mode's post-Alan Wilder sound and their return following a period of severe personal and professional instability. Its Kruder and Dorfmeister remix became one of the best-known reinterpretations from the Ultra era.
