The Vulture (2006 Remastered Version)
Labi Siffre · 1975Recorded at The Music Centre in Wembley, London, for Labi Siffre's fifth studio album, Remember My Song, 'The Vulture' features Siffre on vocals and electric piano, Big Jim Sullivan on lead guitar, Chas Hodges on guitar, Dave Peacock on bass and Ian Wallace on drums. The recording was produced by Derek Lawrence and Big Jim Sullivan, arranged by Sullivan and engineered by Dick Plant. Originally released in 1975 on Remember My Song, 'The Vulture' demonstrated Siffre's rhythmic songwriting and the instrumental interplay of his British session musicians. Its driving bassline, electric piano, brass arrangements and percussion distinguished it as one of the album's most rhythmically forceful recordings. 'The Vulture' gained renewed recognition through the British rare-groove and hip-hop collecting scenes, appearing on EMI's influential 1999 compilation Capitol Rare Volume 3. Its reputation contributed to growing demand for original copies of Remember My Song and the album's subsequent reissue in 2006.
