Kissing My Love

Kissing My Love

Cold Blood · 1973
Recording

Recorded by the San Francisco-based group Cold Blood for their 1973 album Thriller!, the track featured Lydia Pense on lead vocals with the band's horn-driven rhythm section. The session was produced by David Rubinson during the group's tenure on the San Francisco soul and rock circuit. Cold Blood's version reinterpreted Bill Withers' composition with a heavier funk arrangement and powerful vocal delivery. It exemplified the group's fusion of soul, funk and brass-driven West Coast musicianship during the early 1970s. The recording became a respected deep-funk and rare-groove favorite among collectors and DJs. Its hard-hitting drums, horn arrangements and vocal performance have sustained its reputation beyond the band's commercial peak.
