Car Wash

Recorded in 1976 for the Car Wash film soundtrack, with Norman Whitfield assembling Rose Royce as the performing group and shaping the sessions for the movie’s music. The title track was written and produced by Whitfield for the soundtrack project commissioned by director Michael Schultz. The song launched Rose Royce on their debut release and became the soundtrack’s breakout hit, reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Soul Singles charts. It stood out as one of the defining disco-era crossover singles of the late 1970s. 'Car Wash' remained Rose Royce’s signature recording and became one of the most sampled songs of its era. Its hook and intro kept it in circulation through later covers, remixes, and pop culture uses.
