Weak at the Knees
Steve Arrington · 1994Recorded in 1982–1983 for Steve Arrington’s Hall of Fame, Vol. 1, with Steve Arrington, Charles Carter, Buddy Hankerson, and Roger Parker credited as writers and Arrington, Carter, and Jimmy Douglass credited as producers. The album was recorded at Atlantic Studios in New York City and Boogie Hotel in Port Jefferson, New York. Released in 1983 on Atlantic, the track was singled out in contemporary album reviews as one of the set’s strongest funk cuts, and it circulated as a club and R&B favorite rather than a pop crossover. Billboard’s 1983 singles coverage also identified it as a notable Atlantic release. The song gained a long afterlife through sampling, including N.W.A.’s "Gangsta Gangsta" and later hip-hop uses by artists such as Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri, Ice Cube, and Three Times Dope. It remains one of Steve Arrington’s best-known tracks.
