Recording

José James recorded 'Love' for his debut album 'The Dreamer', released on Brownswood Recordings, the London-based label founded by Gilles Peterson, with production handled by Kris Bowers and Flying Lotus collaborator Mono/Poly. The track appeared on James's 2008 debut and announced him as a singular voice bridging jazz, hip-hop, and soul at a moment when Brownswood was championing a new generation of artists redefining jazz's relationship with contemporary black music. The Dreamer established James as a cornerstone artist of the post-millennium jazz-soul crossover, and 'Love' remains among the tracks most associated with his early critical reputation as a vocalist of rare emotional depth.
