Cause I Love Her

Charles Earland · 1972
Recording

Recorded at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, as part of Earland's Prestige Records sessions, with Earland on Hammond B-3 organ leading a small ensemble that included Houston Person on tenor saxophone. The track appeared on Earland's album Living Black!, a live recording that captured the soul-jazz and funk-inflected organ sound he was developing as one of the leading Hammond B-3 voices of the early 1970s Prestige stable. Earland's Prestige output from this period became heavily mined by hip-hop producers and crate diggers in the 1990s, and tracks like this one contributed to the broader rediscovery of soul-jazz organ recordings as source material for sample-based music.
