Why Do You Let Me Stay Here

Why Do You Let Me Stay Here

She & Him · 2008
Recording

Recorded for She & Him’s debut album Volume One, with Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward sharing writing and production duties. M. Ward provided the instrumental backing and Deschanel sang lead. The track opened the duo’s first album and introduced their stripped-down, retro-pop collaboration to a wide indie audience. It helped define the project’s early identity as a charming, low-key side venture with mainstream appeal. It remained one of She & Him’s signature early songs and a defining example of the duo’s partnership. The track continues to be associated with the group’s debut-era sound and has stayed prominent in their live and recorded catalog.
