Radio Ga Ga
Queen · 1984Recording
Queen recorded Radio Ga Ga in 1983 at the Record Plant in Los Angeles during sessions for The Works. Roger Taylor wrote the song, John Deacon added the bassline, Freddie Mercury reshaped the arrangement, and Fred Mandel programmed the arpeggiated synthesizer bass. Radio Ga Ga was released as the lead single from The Works in January 1984 and became a major international hit. It reached number two on the UK Singles Chart and restored Queen to prominent singles-chart visibility in their home market. Radio Ga Ga became one of Queen's signature 1980s recordings through its mass audience participation at Live Aid in 1985. Its title also fed into later pop culture through Lady Gaga's stage name.
