Untitled (How Does It Feel)
D’Angelo · 2000Recording
Recorded in 1999 at Electric Lady Studios in New York, the track was written, produced and arranged by D'Angelo and Raphael Saadiq as a tribute to Prince. Russell Elevado engineered the recording, with Saadiq and Spanky Alford contributing guitars and D'Angelo performing all vocals. The track became Voodoo's highest-charting US single, while its intimate video brought D'Angelo widespread mainstream attention. It won Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2001 Grammy Awards. Its layered falsetto vocals and gradual instrumental build remain among D'Angelo's defining recorded performances. The video became a landmark in representations of male sexuality in popular music and inspired subsequent videos by Jason Derulo and Panic! at the Disco.
