What You Won't Do For Love

Recorded during the sessions surrounding Jessie Ware's debut album Devotion, the track reinterpreted Bobby Caldwell's 1978 composition. Sampha produced the recording and supplied layered backing vocals beneath Ware's lead performance. Released online in 2012 before Devotion, the cover drew critical attention for replacing the original arrangement with sparse percussion, vocal samples and electronic textures. It strengthened Ware's emerging reputation ahead of her debut album. The recording became a notable early showcase for Ware's collaboration with Sampha and later appeared on the American If You're Never Gonna Move EP. It also connected Ware to Bobby Caldwell's enduring songbook before their later collaboration on Break Away.
