The Light

Recorded for Jordan Rakei's debut album Cloak, with Rakei performing vocals, Rhodes piano, guitar and synthesizers alongside Imraan Paleker on guitar and bass and Jim Macrae on drums. Drums were recorded at Old Paradise Audio and vocals at Pink Bird Recording Studios. Released in December 2015 as the first single from Cloak, the track introduced the album's combination of intricate rhythm, layered harmony and reflective songwriting. It marked Rakei's transition from independent EP releases toward his first full-length album. The track remains a representative recording from Rakei's early period and a key introduction to the musical approach developed across Cloak. It has continued to circulate through performances and retrospective attention to his debut album.
