Recording

The Ones, the New York club trio of Paul Alexander, JoJo Americo, and Nashom Wooden, recorded the track for A Touch of Class Recordings after building a following in the underground Manhattan dance scene. The original release credits A Touch of Class alongside the group’s songwriting team. The single became a downtown house anthem that crossed over into the UK charts in 2001 and reached No. 1 on the UK Dance Singles Chart. It also helped define the early-2000s club crossover sound around New York and London dancefloors. The track’s best-known afterlife came in 2004, when George Michael sampled it for "Flawless (Go to the City)." It remains a widely recognized club record and a reference point for vocal house built from classic disco and acid-house elements.
