(We Had) A Thing was released by Abstract Truth with Monique Bingham as vocalist and writer, and the Matty's Body & Soul Remix was remixed and additionally produced by Matthias Heilbronn. The 12-inch release credits Dana Vlcek with original production and engineering, with James Sleepy Keys Preston on additional keyboards and backgrounds and Ben Grassini recording and mixing the Matty mixes. The single became a defining early showcase for Monique Bingham after Abstract Truth's Talkin' Loud debut. Matthias Heilbronn's Body & Soul remix made the song a durable vocal club record and one of Abstract Truth's best-known releases. (We Had) A Thing remained active through later digital editions on Wave Music and continued appearances in specialist DJ charts and compilations. It became a reference point in Monique Bingham's catalogue before her later collaborations with house producers including Ralf GUM and Louie Vega.
