Girls Town Ska
The Baba Brooks Band · 1965Recorded in Kingston for Duke Reid’s Treasure Isle operation and issued in 1965 as the B-side to Derrick Morgan’s "Don't Call Me Daddy." The original release was produced by Duke Reid and credited to The Baba Brooks Band; later accounts place the session at Reid’s Treasure Isle studio on Bond Street. The track captured the sound of mid-1960s Jamaican ska at Treasure Isle, pairing Baba Brooks’s trumpet-led band with Derrick Morgan on the flip side of a single. It circulated as a key Duke Reid release and became one of the better-known Baba Brooks titles in the ska catalogue. "Girls Town Ska" remained a staple of Baba Brooks retrospectives and later appeared on compilations such as The Best of the Skatalites and Treasure Isle Presents: Ska. Its enduring profile comes from its association with Duke Reid’s Treasure Isle era and its continued inclusion in ska anthologies.
