The God of Lying

The God of Lying

Gorillaz · 2025
Recording

Recorded for The Mountain at Studio 13 in London, Studio 13 in Devon, and Island City Studios in Mumbai. Damon Albarn and Joe Talbot wrote the song, with Gorillaz, James Ford, Samuel Egglenton, and Remi Kabaka Jr producing, Ajay Prasanna on bansuri, Viraj Acharya on percussion, and Marta Salogni mixing. Released by Kong in November 2025 as the third single from The Mountain, The God of Lying paired Gorillaz with IDLES vocalist Joe Talbot. The track introduced the album's themes of doubt, political unease, and cross-cultural instrumentation ahead of the album's 2026 release. The song stands as a key pre-release marker for The Mountain and one of Gorillaz's more prominent late-period collaborations. Its combination of Talbot's spoken vocal presence, Indian instrumentation, and Gorillaz's dub-inflected production tied the single to the album's wider global recording concept.
