Over And Over
Hot Chip · 2006Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard developed the song while Hot Chip were living and working in Camden, using a desktop computer, home percussion, and the same limited setup they had used for their first album. Taylor said Felix Martin played the distorted bass line, and the track was built from Goddard’s percussion loop and a groove-shaped vocal lyric. Released in 2006 as the lead single from The Warning, it marked Hot Chip’s move to a bigger, more forceful sound after their debut. Taylor later called it a life-changing song; the band said it validated them and made listeners take them more seriously. It became Hot Chip’s signature song and remained a set highlight years later. Its refrain, production style, and home-recorded approach helped define the band’s reputation and continued to be referenced in discussions of their work.
