Melody Day

Caribou · 2007
Recording

Dan Snaith recorded the track for Andorra in his London bedroom setup, while the drums for “Melody Day” were cut in the band’s rehearsal studio before that room was demolished. The song was produced by Snaith with Jeremy Greenspan, and David Wrench handled the mix. Released as the lead single and opening track from Andorra, it announced Caribou’s shift toward tightly arranged psych-pop. Contemporary reviews singled it out for its tuneful hook and the dramatic mid-song pause-and-reentry that drives the arrangement. The track remains one of Andorra’s signature songs and an early example of the stop-start percussion style that became a Caribou hallmark. Its continued circulation through remixes and reissues has kept it central to the album’s reputation.
