We Are Your Friends
Justice vs. Simian · 2006Recording
Originally cut in 2003 as Justice’s remix of Simian’s “Never Be Alone” for a Paris college-radio remix contest, then issued commercially in 2006 as “We Are Your Friends.” The track became Justice’s breakout record and the second release on Ed Banger’s orbit, helping define the early indie-electro crossover. It also turned into a club and festival anthem and brought major attention to the duo. It remains one of Justice’s signature tracks and later lent its title to the 2015 film We Are Your Friends. The song’s long afterlife in DJ culture and media made it an enduring shorthand for the mid-2000s electro era.
