Lapdance
N*E*R*D · 2001Recording
It was cut for N.E.R.D.’s debut era and released as the band’s first single, featuring Lee Harvey and Vita. The recording is credited to Mastersound Recording Studios in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with The Neptunes producing. “Lapdance” introduced N.E.R.D.’s debut campaign and established the group’s harder, more rock-leaning sound. The original UK single entered the Official Singles Chart and peaked at No. 33, giving the group an early crossover hit. The track remained one of N.E.R.D.’s signature early songs and drew later reinterpretations, including a Trent Reznor remix and a 2020 cover by Wargasm. Its afterlife shows how far it traveled beyond the band’s first release cycle.
