We Lift Our Hands in the Sanctuary

Released in 2001 on Sancsoul Records, the track was credited to DJ Oji and Una and issued as a 12-inch with the mixes “Friday Night At The Sanctuary,” “Afro Sanctuary Mix,” and “Original Demo Mix.” The release copy credits production to DJ Oji and vocals to Una, with Charles Dockins on keys and Sam the Man Burns as a special guest vocal appearance. The record turned Kurt Carr’s gospel refrain into a club-side house anthem and was presented by the label as an underground dancefloor record. Its original 12-inch release anchored the early Sancsoul catalog. The track remained part of DJ Oji’s catalog long after its first pressing, resurfacing in later remixes and digital reissues on POJI. It continued to circulate in house-DJ sets and compilations, keeping the song alive well beyond its original release.
