Where Did Our Love Go

Diana Ross · 1964
Recording

Recorded in 1964 at Hitsville U.S.A. in Detroit by The Supremes, with Diana Ross on lead vocal and Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard on background vocals. Holland-Dozier-Holland produced the session with the Funk Brothers providing the backing track. The track was The Supremes’ breakthrough hit and their first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100. It established the polished Motown Sound that turned the group into one of the label’s defining acts. The song remains one of the signature records of 1960s pop and soul, widely recognized as the record that launched The Supremes’ classic hit run. It has been preserved as a landmark Motown recording and continues to appear in retrospectives of the era.
