I Would Die 4 You

Mariachi El Bronx recorded Prince's composition for SPIN's Purplish Rain tribute, released in June 2009 to mark the original album's 25th anniversary. Matt Caughthran sings lead on the band's reinterpretation. The cover was the first released recording under the Mariachi El Bronx identity, introducing the Bronx's new musical project before its debut album. It subsequently appeared as the B-side to Cell Mates. The recording returned as the opening track on Música Muerta, Vol. 2 in 2020. That collection brought the band's early cover together with rarities, demos and other previously scattered recordings.
