Alright - Club Mix - From 1991
Urban Soul · 1991Originally recorded in 1991 by New York producer and vocalist Roland Clark under his Urban Soul project, Alright was produced and written by Clark, with backing vocals from Ceybil Jefferies. The Club Mix was mixed by Freddy Sanon and Manny Diaz, who also served as executive producers, and appeared on the original Polar Records release. Alright became an influential early-1990s club record, receiving support from Tony Humphries at New Jersey's Zanzibar nightclub and reaching number one on James Hamilton's UK club chart in March 1991. Licensed to Cooltempo for its British release, the single reached number 43 on the UK Singles Chart following a series of remixes, including versions by Sasha and Graeme Park. Alright remains an enduring recording from Urban Soul's early catalogue and a recognised example of the New York club sound that crossed into Britain's dance music scene. The original Club Mix was reissued by Systematic in June 2015 as part of its Lost Treasures series, preserving the 1991 recording for subsequent generations of DJs.
