Tell Me Something Good
Ronnie Laws · 1975Recording
Recorded in 1975 for the album Pressure Sensitive, the track featured saxophonist Ronnie Laws backed by leading Los Angeles session musicians from the jazz-funk and soul scenes. The recording was produced by Wayne Henderson and reworked Stevie Wonder's composition into an instrumental jazz-funk showcase. The track helped establish Ronnie Laws as a major figure in the emerging jazz-funk movement of the mid-1970s. Its tight groove, sophisticated arrangement and crossover appeal made it a favorite on jazz, soul and dance playlists. The recording became a staple of rare-groove culture and has been widely sampled by hip-hop producers. It remains one of Ronnie Laws' best-known recordings and a benchmark of 1970s jazz-funk musicianship.
