Get Out of My Life, Woman

Get Out of My Life, Woman

Lee Dorsey · 1965
Recording

Recorded in New Orleans with Allen Toussaint in charge of the arrangement and production. The single captures Lee Dorsey’s late-1965 Amy-era collaboration with Toussaint and the city’s Cosimo Recording Studio sound. Released as a 1965 single, it became one of Lee Dorsey’s defining records and reached the pop and R&B charts in 1966. Its sharp New Orleans groove and Toussaint’s arrangement helped establish the modern sound associated with Dorsey’s Amy singles. The song became a standard for later performers and one of the most sampled records from the New Orleans catalog. It remains closely identified with Allen Toussaint’s songwriting and Lee Dorsey’s crossover success.
