Ring My Bell

Ring My Bell

Anita Ward · 1979
Recording

Frederick Knight produced the track for Anita Ward’s 1979 debut album, Songs of Love, during sessions at Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida. Knight wrote the song and brought it to Ward after originally developing it for Stacy Lattisaw. Released as Ward’s breakthrough single, it became a defining late-disco hit and reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, the UK singles chart, and the US R&B and dance charts. Its success made Ward a one-hit wonder and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. The song remains Ward’s signature recording and a standard reference point for late-1970s disco. Its hook, bell motif, and dance-floor prominence have kept it in circulation through covers, compilations, and frequent pop-culture use.
