Shake Your Groove Thing
Peaches & Herb · 1978The track was recorded at The Mom & Pop's Company Store in Studio City, California for the 2 Hot! album, with Herb Fame and Linda Greene as the duo's vocal lineup. Freddie Perren produced, wrote, played keyboards, and arranged the rhythm track, with Pete Robinson arranging horns, strings, and synthesizers and Jack Rouben and Steve Pouliot engineering. Released by Polydor and MVP in December 1978, it returned Peaches & Herb to the U.S. pop charts after a seven-year absence. The single reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 4 on the R&B chart, and number 2 on Billboard's disco chart. The record became one of Peaches & Herb's signature songs and a durable mainstream dance standard. Its later use in films, television, games, and advertising kept it culturally visible beyond its original chart run.
