You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)

You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)

Sylvester · 1978
Recording

Recorded for Sylvester’s 1978 album Step II, the track paired his soaring vocal performance with a disco arrangement built around a tight rhythm section and bright electronic textures. Harvey Fuqua and Sylvester handled the production. The single became Sylvester’s breakthrough crossover hit and a defining statement of late-1970s disco. It also became closely identified with queer club culture and the wider dance-music scene. The song remains Sylvester’s signature recording and one of the most enduring disco anthems of its era. Its title phrase and vocal performance have continued to resonate through covers, samples, and cultural references.
