Recording

ABC recorded Poison Arrow in 1981 at Sarm East Studios in London with producer Trevor Horn and engineer Gary Langan. Horn used sequenced synthesizer parts to guide the performance, while Karen Clayton supplied the spoken female response. The band's second single became their first UK top-ten hit, establishing the ambitious production approach of The Lexicon of Love. Its dramatic arrangement and Martin Fry's theatrical delivery helped define Britain's early-1980s pop resurgence. The recording remains a signature ABC song and a prominent example of Trevor Horn's studio craft. Its inclusion on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City's Wave 103 station introduced it to another generation.
