Baby Come Back
Player · 1977Recording
Recorded in 1977 at Western Recorders and Sound Labs in Hollywood for Player's self-titled debut album. Peter Beckett shared lead vocals with J. C. Crowley, backed by Ronn Moss on bass, John Friesen on drums and additional keyboards from Wayne Cook. Released as Player's debut single, the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks and reached number 10 on the Hot Soul Singles chart. Its polished harmonies and emotionally direct chorus established the band as a major late-1970s radio act. The song remains Player's signature recording and a defining example of polished West Coast pop. Its continued use in films, television and advertising has sustained its cultural recognition well beyond the band's original career.
