Ring the Alarm

Ring the Alarm

Fu‐Schnickens · 1991
Recording

Recorded and mixed at Battery Studios, with preproduction completed at The Dungeon. Lyvio G produced the track, Anthony Saunders engineered it, Chris Trevett handled mix engineering, and Danny Browne played guitar. Released by Jive in November 1991 as Fu-Schnickens' debut single, it reached number 6 on Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart. The record introduced the Brooklyn trio's rapid-fire style before their 1992 album F.U. Don't Take It Personal. It remains the group's breakthrough record and one of the clearest early showcases for Chip-Fu's high-speed delivery. Its use of Tenor Saw's dancehall anthem kept the track connected to Caribbean sound-system culture within early-1990s New York rap.
