Treat 'Em Right
Chubb Rock · 1991Recording
Recorded for The One during sessions at Chung King House of Metal in Manhattan, with Howie Tee and Chubb Rock handling production. The single was issued from the album after those 1990–1991 sessions. Released as the lead single from The One, it became Chubb Rock’s signature crossover hit, reaching No. 95 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 67 in the UK. It also hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles chart and was widely treated as a breakout rap club record. The track stayed visible through later compilations, soundtrack use in Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, and interpolation or sampling by later artists such as K’naan and Mary J. Blige. Its hook and groove remained a durable reference point for early-1990s rap crossover records.
