Express Yourself

Leroy Sibbles · 1970
Recording

Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica at Studio One, with Leroy Sibbles leading a Studio One house-session cut of Charles Wright’s "Express Yourself." The record came out of Clement "Coxsone" Dodd’s production setup at Jamaica Recording and Publishing Studio. The single was one of Studio One’s signature soul-reggae cover versions and highlighted Sibbles’s standing as a key voice in the label’s late-1960s and early-1970s output. It circulated as a prized Coxsone 7-inch and later became a staple cut on Studio One retrospectives. The track remained a sought-after reggae collector’s piece and a durable example of how Studio One translated American soul into Jamaican style. Its continued reissue life kept Sibbles’s version in circulation for later listeners and selectors.
